macorine987 Says:
Aug 12, 2010 - @SomeAznKid247 How would you take him down if they can attack from farther away than you?
labstrixia2012 Says:
Aug 14, 2010 - ???? O_O ????
GrowlingManiac Says:
Aug 14, 2010 - @SomeAznKid247 taekwondo focuses on ALOT of self defence, you could attempt a grapple on someone trained in it, but if they stick to this martial art they will EASLY break the grappel :)
TurdFurginson Says:
Aug 14, 2010 - @GrowlingManiac TKW is about as effective for self-defense as a wicker shield is to defending against a gun shot.. Look into other MA's like Muay Thai and Kyokushin to see that they're designed to dismantle an enemy with vicious strikes and clinches that TKW doesn't even acknowledge let alone teach how to counter. Nice to know TKW in the dojo, but in a real fight it's useless.
Ne3emA Says:
Aug 16, 2010 - @TurdFurginson yes learning how to STRIKE effectively with kicks and punches ONLY is exactly like a wicker shield defending against a gun shot. Respect for all martial arts or respect for none. If every martial art taught you how to counter attacks and clinces from martial arts in different hemispheres then no one would ever reach a black belt.
Ne3emA Says:
Aug 16, 2010 - @TurdFurginson I really would like to see someone in ju juitsu or muay thai utilize range like a tkd artist
TurdFurginson Says:
Aug 16, 2010 - @Ne3emA Muay thai, jui jutsu and TKW all developed in the same hemisphere one. Two, in the vast majority of street fights (not tournements) range means very little as if you have any substantial distance (say 6-10 ft) the best thing to do is disengage. If you're opponents in reach than that usually means you are too. I just don't like tkw as it focuses too much on belts and katas while other MA's focus on reality-based situations. Respect is due where respect is earned.
LtActionCam Says:
Aug 16, 2010 - @TurdFurginson Have you taken taekwondo before? I disagree on your statment. If you have, then it is probably your master. Otherwise, all the masters and instructors that I have been with has taught us the wide range that Taekwondo has to offer. Taekwondo is not limited to its belts and just kicking. There is alot more to Taekwondo then that.Taekwondo also includes self-defence which incorporates groin strikes and eye gouging; and alot more.
Ne3emA Says:
Aug 16, 2010 - @TurdFurginson that being said. i absolutely agree with you with about tkd being more about belts and kicking with "pretty" form than real life situations. some gyms around here you can have a black belt in 2 years... seriously, 2 years?
Ne3emA Says:
Aug 16, 2010 - @LtActionCam and hell yeah i can't wait to learn some eye gouging
ButterlySmuckers Says:
Aug 17, 2010 - @Ne3emA not all trainers train people the same..some tkd teach hands, elbows, grabs, and actually keeping your hands up... belts, fighting style dont mean nothing when it comes down to it....i'v seen people say im leaving tkd cuzz it sux n im doin muay thai and still lose in a fight..its all fighter and what fits them..n yes it works n real situation only if the persons SKILLED. Ive high blocked shots in a fight than later not recognize it because if u train right, it comes automatic.
