Nov 26, 2009 - A nice video...but this is NOT "Kung-fu" or "Gung-fu", it's only karate. True gung-fu does not "spar" in a kick boxing fashion, despite the thousands of schools claiming to be "kung-fu" schools in the past 40 years that teach this. No one ever seems to wonder why it all looks virtually identical to karate..because it is karate with just some kung-fu sounding techniques thrown in there to make it sound like Kung-fu. True kung-fu is almost extinct today, no dis intended, nice vid, but not kung-fu.
ATiRAGEPRO Says:
Dec 27, 2009 - Gong-Fu in it's literal meaning is simply "skill." It takes a little bit of skill to actually try that successfully.( though to be fair, it almost never works.) This is Sanda or San Shou, (free fighting) and is a perfectly legitimate Wushu. (martial art.) This is not Karate, because almost all subsequent forms of Karate are Okinawan, with only some techniques borrowed from Chinese Wushu. So if you see similarities here, that's because they were Chinese techniques to begin with.

Dec 27, 2009 - I don't believe anybody has a right to teach martial arts unless they have been in a few mixed martial arts competitions like UFC etcin fact I would go as far as to say you are not a real martial artist unless you have been in a mixed martial arts competition.
GungFuMan777 Says:
Dec 27, 2009 - Gung or Gong-fu mean's "Energy and Time" needed to accomplish something in any acheivement whether martial art or not. I'm not talking as much about it's origins as the techniques demonstrated being called some form of Chinese martial arts, specifically those arts known collectively as Gung-fu. The techniques being shown are not from the Chinese arts but are from modern kick boxing type of arts which are typically derived from some form of Karate arts as they're practiced today not Gung-fu.

Jan 23, 2010 - @investmentpushbiker you're an idiot. mixed martial arts competitions are not the supreme authority on fighting. Both my sifu and sigung used to fight full contact (with weapons even) all the time. My sifu has even been in a few sparring competitions where he was dq'd for using "illegal techniques." MMA like UFC have illegal techniques as well, so all your suggestion really applies to is someone who wants to teach MMA, not Martial Arts in general.
ilyearer Says:
Jan 23, 2010 - I mean, seriously, what about the martial artists who grew up or lived for an extended period of time in a rough neighborhood where they've had to use their martial arts for self defense? Don't they have some authority on martial arts? Or how about the fact that there is way more to martial arts than just fighting. MMA is essentially fighting taken from martial arts and not a martial art in itself.
twobitmage Says:
Feb 6, 2010 - read the bio. it says he's been practicing for 6 years and he already teaches...I've been practicing kendo for 10 years, and if I made a video claiming to be an expert, I'd be the laughing stock of the entire international kendo federation.I haven't ever practiced any Chinese martial arts, but I pretty much assumed this would be universal (that it takes at least 15-20 years before you're qualified to teach)
deathleader9 Says:
Mar 3, 2010 - You are mistaken martial arts isn't even always about being ripped and showing off your UFC belt, to a lot of people martial arts are a way of life and they will not fight unless provoked extremely , you cant say someone doesn't have the right to teach because they do not believe in hurting somebody if they do not need to.
