Jan 26, 2010 - as a martial artist and tkd practionair,..i agreed,...valid point my friend
spikeouts Says:
Jan 27, 2010 - In addition,i hope everyone will remember this,we all learn martial arts not to show who is better, rather to build up our body and become strong, sparring is just to see how much we have improve and how far more we can improve, thats the purpose of sparring, not to kill your opponent
spikeouts Says:
Jan 27, 2010 - Also, never say things like muay thai or taekwondo or what martial art is the best, respect the diff martial arts of diff countries, appreciate them, who knows you might learn something new from the martial art you look down on
180Patrick360 Says:
Feb 4, 2010 - Sorry, but you're wrong. Sparring is intended to prepare us to protect ourselves in a life threatening hand to hand combat situation. Of course, sparring is not about killing your opponent (in the sparring ring), but it should prepare to you do so "on the streets" if you have to. The main components of a true martial artist are: humility, respect, self discipline, courtesy, and self control.
spikeouts Says:
Feb 4, 2010 - ahh, hand to hand combat, but u noe taekwondo is more on kicks during sparring,if hand to hand i bet we would lose too,for self defence,it wouldnt be sparring.instead a diff technique should be apply.
spikeouts Says:
Feb 4, 2010 - sure u can use kicks during hand to hand combat, but not all kicks,u would have to use more on hands to defend urself.
180Patrick360 Says:
Feb 5, 2010 - Well, it depends on how you train. If you practice defending yourself with either kicks or punches, you will be able to defend yourself with either kicks or punches. If you practice all kicks, it will be hard for you to incorporate punching into your sparring or self defense situation. Both are tools of self defense and both have their merits when used properly. (darn character limit...)
180Patrick360 Says:
Feb 5, 2010 - Not necessarily. I suppose it would depend on how good you are at keeping people away from you with kicks. A kick is the most powerful attack that you have available to you, and if you can keep your attacker out of distance by kicking, then GOOD. In a self defense situation, your attacker(s) will not be expecting you to kick them, whereas they WILL be expecting you to punch.
180Patrick360 Says:
Feb 5, 2010 - I actually know a world champion who has, on numerous occasions, defended himself against multiple attackers with practically "just" kicks. Of course, the people he kicked were down for the count after "just" ONE kick. A fast, powerful, and properly thrown kick is practically the best defense technique because it is not only the most powerful, but also the longest and safest type of attack (it keeps your main body out of range of injury from your attacker).

Feb 8, 2010 - as a judo, jiu jitsu, and muay thai practicioner, i have to say this video makes me respect tae kwon do a hell of a lot more than i used to. I know a few people who do tkd and my brother does kajukenbo, so i've seen them before. i was always under the impression that tkd was not as tough as muay thai or kjkb, but watching this video...especially at :55 makes me respect the tkd guys just a little bit more. Good Stuff :D
trytryagain2000 Says:
Feb 10, 2010 - tkd. Good defense against tkd (1) keep hands up; (2) step in when they do; (3) kick lead leg as they step forward and kick with lead leg. With tkd hands down the head is wide open when you are inside.
Mannypacquia0 Says:
Feb 10, 2010 - yeah me i was in tkd when i was like 12 to 15 yrs old, and yeah they do alot of kicks, obviously punches we arent known for our punches but like kicks, kinda like sanda except we dont have much of really any grappling at all
Taekwondosoccer3 Says:
Feb 11, 2010 - C1: you forgot to mention tkd girls. I received my black belt when I was 8 and I'm glad you realized that tkd is majorly kick ass. Everyone thinks of tkd like they think of soccer. Girls soccer is way more physical than people think and so is tkd...obviously
mickdo8640 Says:
Feb 18, 2010 - It's just not practical to throw around that many kicks. Kicks take more energy to throw than a punch, elbow or knee. Why do you think kickboxers lead with punches and finish their combos off with kicks? I also guarantee that for the number of kicks you could throw, anyone could throw at least twice as many punches, elbows of knees. Then there's the problem if someone grapples you. Trust me I used to do taekwondo, it was fun but I would NEVER use it in a self defence situation.
thaberry2 Says:
Feb 23, 2010 - y r these dudes so slow??all the black belts and i could show these ppl really how to fight
Lubie225 Says:
Feb 27, 2010 - they're not slow, its about scoring points not about who gets bashed first
NeutroNova Says:
Feb 28, 2010 - Wrong mickdo... In a test of different martial arts, TKD kicking had the fastest reaction and contact time of all, faster than any othe rmartials arts punches. Don't believe me? Watch Fight Science on the Science Channel.
yardkyle Says:
Mar 1, 2010 - those tests are only based on those idividuals. whoever represented TKD was just a very fast kicker...it doesn't mean that all TKD players are faster than any other martial artists. there are no better styles, only better players
mplsskate987 Says:
Mar 1, 2010 - 0:55 was better than most of what iv seen at non tkd tournaments..
thaberry2 Says:
Mar 3, 2010 - sure but the faster person gets more oppotunities to score

play4jae Says:
